Bunscoil an Iúir, Newry

Naíscoil an Iúir celebrated its 30th birthday this year, having provided Irish Medium pre-school education in the Newry area since 1987.

We cater for children in their 'pre-school' year and act as a feeder nursery for Bunscoil an Iúir.

We have three full-time staff and our maximum capacity is 16 children.

Our aim is to provide a safe, secure, stimulating learning environment for our pupils, where they can develop the skills needed to prepare them for entry to primary education.

We use a topic / thematic based appraoch to learning and follow seven areas of learning:

Early Mathematics

Language Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Physical Development (fine & gross motorskills)

The Arts

World Around Us

Irish Language Acquisition

The curriculum is delivered via carefully planned play-based activities and staff observe each child's progress regularly, to enable them to devise and plan future activities to meet each child's learning needs. Staff make effective use of songs, rhymes and a range of gestures and facial expressions to help the children to develop an understanding and basic word-based vocabulary in Irish.
